![]() What follows is a brief compendium of significant events in our firm as well as important legal developments. We encourage you to return here often. Conservatorships The State of California recently enacted significant changes to conservatorship law which substantially increased the oversight of the Court. This increased oversight was in reaction to abuses which were detailed in the newspaper. Inheritance Tax There was an effort to change the current inheritance tax rules last summer but that effort failed. Many people believe that inheritance tax changes will not occur until after the next presidential election. Probate The filing fee to probate a will in California (or to administer an estate without a will) is based on a graduated scale which depends on the gross value of the estate. As of 2007 the basic filing fee is $320 for an estate with a gross value of $250,000 or less while an estate with an estimated gross value of $3,499,999 has a filing fee of $3,636. |
